Easy Co-Editing in the Web UI

Egnyte has made it even easier to collaborate with recent enhancements to the Desktop App and Web UI that allow for seamless co-editing in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace documents. Eliminate the confusion (and clutter) of multiple versions of the same file by co-authoring simultaneously and securely through Egnyte.

Web UI

Users with the Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace integrations enabled on their domain now have two ways to start co-editing sessions through the Egnyte web interface: from the folder listing view or through the file preview. Just look for the “Edit in Microsoft Office Online” or “Edit in Google Workspace” button in each view and start collaborating in real-time with a single click.

This enhancement enables users to quickly enjoy the benefits of real-time collaborative authoring while maintaining the security and accountability of Egnyte.

Desktop App for Windows

The Egnyte Desktop App has also gotten a co-editing upgrade, with the ability to start or join a collaborative editing session via the context (right-click)menu from within your file explorer. Depending on the integration permissions and defaults set up by your administrator, this will offer you the option to co-edit in your default app or will give you the choice between Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Online.

If another user is already editing a document, you can join a co-editing session with them by double-clicking the file to open it as you normally would; depending on your settings, this will either enter you into the session with your collaborator, or it will open a prompt allowing you to choose between co-editing or working on your own in the document. From your Egnyte desktop settings, you can edit your preferences to always co-edit when available, to never co-edit, or to prompt each time.

Manage how you experience co-editing sessions in your settings>preferences menu in the Desktop App

Like the enhancement within the Web UI, this enhancement to the Desktop App enables users to quickly and easily take advantage of real-time collaboration, ensuring the most accurate and up-to-date content while maintaining security and visibility of your data.
